FAQs
How it works?
Stamp your seed phrase onto durable metal washers, secure them in a waterproof capsule, and conceal it safely. View more detailed instructions on the backup creation process here.
Why do I need a metal backup for my seed phrase?
Paper and digital backups can fail. Metal survives fire, water, and time—keeping your seed phrase safe long-term. Here’s why it matters.
What do I need to create my seed phrase recovery backup?
Shop one of our kits. If your kit includes washers and letter stamps, you'll also need a hammer and a hard surface (ideally steel or concrete) for stamping. The process typically takes around 20 minutes.
Why should I have more than one seed phrase backup?
Multiple backups mean multiple chances to recover your crypto if one is lost. Store them in separate, secure locations, and always use a strong passphrase. Learn why it matters.
What is the difference between stainless steel and zinc-galvanized washers?
There are a few (minor) differences relevant to seed phrase backup using our metal washers:
- Stainless steel is slightly more resistant to corrosion than zinc-galvanized metal. If you don't keep the washers in a moist environment for a long time (months or more), this difference doesn't matter.
- The galvanized washers are easier to stamp. You will need to apply stronger force and possibly use a bigger hammer to stamp letters into stainless steel.
If you would like to receive galvanized washers instead of stainless steel washers, please add a note to your order during checkout (step 3).
Where should I store my metal backup?
You should store your seed phrase backup in a secure but accessible location. See storage tips.
How do these kits protect against theft and unauthorized access?
The backup recovery kits include a discreet aluminum capsules for storing your seed phrase washers, helping keep them hidden. Additionally, tamper-evident seal stickers alert you to any unauthorized access attempts, adding another layer of security.
Should I use a passphrase with my seed phrase?
Yes. A passphrase (also called the 25th word in some wallets) adds an extra layer of security. Even if someone finds your seed phrase, they would still need your passphrase to access your funds. Just ensure you also store the passphrase securely, separate from the seed phrase.
What are the tamper-evident seal stickers for?
The included stickers have unique number codes to help you verify if your seed phrase storage has been accessed or tampered with.
Are these seed phrase storage kits discreet?
Yes, the aluminum capsule is compact and discreet, allowing you to store your seed phrase securely and out of sight.
